Baby's first (and second!) outdoor run

Well, Kellie exaggerates. I didn't kick her ass. Not at all. Girlfriend rocked it. Though, I was pretty good at pacing, once we got on the street, which was quite a surprise to me. I've always had trouble pacing myself when I'm not on a treadmill, but I felt pretty good on our first run. Don't get me wrong. It was tough - really hot, really humid, shin splints, HILLS - but we did it and I'm really proud of us.

I didn't go upstairs and log additional miles on the treadmill. I tried, but I was pretty dehydrated and soaked right through. I think I ran one minute, maybe two, before just stopping and stretching instead. But it was a fun run and it really helped to have Kellie there. I can't wait to do it again.

I repeated our run the following morning (yesterday) and found it a lot more difficult to do alone. I thought the hardest part was probably the track. Mentally, I have a lot of trouble running on a track. But. BUT BUT BUT, after the mile on the track, I started our loop, which begins with a nice size hill that had both KLK and me panting and walking the day before. I ran the whole thing. WOOHOO. I was totally Rocky at the top also, fists up in the air, pumping.

My calves are pretty tight today, in spite of extensive stretching upon return from my run and throughout the day yesterday and today. I'm also experiencing shin splints again and an old ankle injury has come back to bug me a bit. My ankle is a bit swollen, so I may do my intervals inside tomorrow on the treadmill. I'll see how I'm feeling. My long run on Saturday is going to be either 5 1/2 or 6 miles. I'll see how my ankle is doing. And I'll see how much sleep I get in the next couple of days. There's a big event on the schedule (tonight, hopefully!).

No duo runs for us this weekend 'cause Kellie will be in NJ with M, W, and J. I'm sure they'll have a blast, but I'll miss my running buddy. Treat her kindly. And make sure she gets in her runs. :)
